Have a question?

28 November 11

This is from the slut walk. One of the arguments is that girls ask for rape because they wear slutty clothes, short skirts, tight, low-cut tops. This girl is an example of the fact that rape victims can look like anyone, you, me, this girl. Rapists. Dont. Discriminate.

As irritating as it is when people say “It’s the girl’s fault, they asked for it…” kind of bullshit, I’m going to control my anger and instead try to educate as to why this is a ridiculous notion. Say you were the assailant. How is it the victim’s fault that YOU would go so far as to aggressively go against this vulnerable person’s will just to bring yourself some kind of control and satisfaction? Are you, as the assailant, some kind of primitive small-brained animal that lacks the simple ability to CONTROL yourself and RESPECT others? Nobody WANTS or ASKS or “DESERVES” to be raped. That’s just horrible. This should be something so fundamental yet a vast majority of people I will talk to regarding this matter will still say, “Well, it’s the girl’s fault for looking so-and-so way…”. It’s NEVER the VICTIM’S fault. Like the above description stated, rape victims can look like anyone. And believe it or not, most rape victims were raped at places they thought were safe, NOT dressed “promiscuously” and NOT doing anything that would make them seem so. So instead of shameless victim-blaming and slut-shaming, educate yourself. Start with this article I found. Also found this guy’s blog as I was browsing the interwebs. Really interesting. Read it all. Think about it.
